 "THE LEARNING TENT" 
                                                  
2009-2010 CLASSES

 K  and 1st Grade Program: 

Sundays, 9am-12:30pm 
Each morning begins with a half hour Children's Service filled with music, prayer, stories from the Torah, and seasonal songs.  Following this service, children join their classmates and teacher to learn about Jewish holidays, the Jewish home, synagogue, and the community. Preprimers are used to learn the name, sound and position of each letter. In addition, Hebrew is introduced with a vocabulary of Jewish living and connected to the acquisition of letters.  During their day, students enjoy a snack.  Classes also visit our library for a story and are allowed to take out books approximately once during each month.

 2nd thru 4th Grade Program: 

Wednesdays: 4:15pm  to 6:15pm   and Sundays: 9am  to 12:30pm
The Elementary program includes Hebrew, Prayer, Text, and Jewish Life. Highlights include:
        
A self-paced and comprehensive Hebrew program for learning to read Hebrew comfortably and basic liturgical vocabulary. 
        
Lessons on learning to lead major sections of the Friday Evening Service, participating in the weekly Sunday morning children’s service,  developing the skill to lead Friday night Kabbalat Service with its modern melodies, and reciting important holiday blessings. 
        
An introduction to Jewish values and concepts through Torah Stories,      Drama, Prophets and Writings. 
        
Overview of the Jewish holiday cycle 
        
Visits to our library for project work, individual reading and opportunity to check out books.

 5 thru 7th Grade Program:

Wednesdays 4:15pm to 6:15pm & Sundays 9am to12:30pm
Highlights include:
        
On-going Hebrew Program, reinforcement of reading and writing practice  
        
Examination of Jewish ethics and values through Midrash
        
Study of Jewish history, modern Israel, and the Holocaust. (7th graders).
        
Lessons on learning to lead Musaf, review of Shacharit and Torah services,  translating major sections of the Saturday morning service and exploring its themes. Participating in Sunday morning Children Services and exploration of lifecycle events.


8th thru10th Grade Program:

Biweekly Wednesday evenings:  4:30pm to 6:30pm
Confirmation classes provide a variety of mini-courses which include, History of America’s Jews, Biblical Answers to Modern Questions, Jewish Heroes, Modern Hebrew, Review of Holiday Liturgy, Tefilah, Blessings, and Havdalah. 

 11th and12th Grade Program:

Biweekly Wednesday evenings 6:30pm to 8:30pm
Post-Confirmation provides students an opportunity to study such topics as Parashat Hashavuah (Weekly Torah Reading), a look at the Jewish holidays through adult eyes, and immediate Jewish concerns within the High School world.

 STORAHTELLING: 

Students will explore and study Torah via the Storahtelling methodology of dramatic translation and interpretation of Torah text.  Purim this year will feature the students work. The year will culminate in a school production in May, written and produced by our students and performed by our students in both Hebrew and English!!

 FAMILY CONNECTIONS: 

Our religious school introduced a parallel learning experience which will allow parents and students to study together.  Classes will meet on selected Sundays and will explore Jewish History, traditions, and values.
